The My
LJMU App for students This
will be available shortly from Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store and
will provide students with ready access to a number of interactive services,
the student website being preferred for static information. The Faculty will
specifically support two MyLJMU services, each being accessible to staff via
blue quick link tiles on the staff home page: |

1 See
My Tutor and availability posters outside offices From
Sept 2019, this will be exclusive means by which Science staff advertise
four
hours of weekly availability to students for ad hoc meetings. See My
Tutor is intuitive, robust, and seamlessly integrates with Outlook (though
does not necessitate Outlook use).
Posters outside offices should show contact details, a colour photo
and a link to See My Tutor. A specimen poster is here
produced using an example template. |

2 Learner
Digital Engagement (LDE) and tutorial registers Level 3
and 4 students can view their digital engagement information in MyLJMU. These
data are available to Personal Tutors and Programme Leaders via LDE. The
system is currently read-only and so staff can safely explore its
functionality: viewing a student’s record shows a facsimile of the
information accessible to students via MyLJMU. There is potential to further
develop this system and provide tutors with updates on referrals to support
service, for example. For this to occur, there needs to be greater use of the
system by staff and L3 and L4 Science Personal Tutors should consult LDE
before each tutorial, an aide memoire being added to the tutorial
register template to encourage this. Any matters arising can be raised
privately with individual students after the tutorial. For
further information, please see the IT
Services September 2019 Staff briefing note. |

The Foundation for Citizenship Perhaps
best known for the Roscoe lectures, the Foundation’s
work in encouraging students to become active, informed and responsible
citizens covers a range of activities. This short video provides a contemporary
summary of its work and accompanies the relaunch of the Foundation. |

The
format for teaching observations will change in 2019/20, there being two
elements: 1) A Faculty peer review scheme
involving pairs of staff, names being circulated later this year. Peer review
is intended to be supportive and non-judgmental with a reflection and
enhancement focus. Each tutor in the
pair will survey the other’s practice and this may include: · Assessment and feedback · Communication with and between students · Equality, diversity and inclusion · Learning resources · Observation of teaching · Online learning · Personal/academic tutoring practices · Work-based learning Each
member of the pair will complete a simple online declaration to confirm that
they acted as a reviewer and what good practices emerged for potential
sharing. 2) Formal
teaching observation by a trained observer, organised by the Teaching
& Learning Academy (TLA). This is intended to provide feedback to inform
development, discussions at PDPR, and evidence excellence. Details will
follow from the TLA. |
