LTA Development Day 15th December 2014 Many thanks to all those who
attended and/or contributed to the first Faculty LTA Development Day 15th
December 2014. The event was a success and feedback forms collected on the
day will be analysed and used to inform next year’s event. I have updated the
online schedule with copies of presenter’s slides, where available: http://www.staff.ljmu.ac.uk/phcpdent/FacultyLTA/Staff%20Development%20Day%2015%2012%2014.htm |

Policy may be found here.
The policy has recently been revised and no longer applies to tutorials with personal
tutees that are cancelled more than 24 hours in advance. Specifically, this

International Student Experience
Project The LiverpoolSU are undertaking this research project and have advertised for student volunteers to take part. They don’t currently have any funding and it has been agreed is that the project will continue as a pilot study, eventually becoming a larger, funded project. A working group will be set up to develop the findings from the pilot and LiverpoolSU would appreciate the support of academics. The working group would be composed of someone from the International Office, someone from Study Group, and a representative from each Faculty. If you are interested in being the rep for SCS, or require more information, please contact me in the first instance p.denton@ljmu.ac.uk. |

The Turnitin App (thanks to Chris Gilles) During the referral process this summer a handful of EHC colleagues trialled the new iPad Turnitin app. Danny Cullinane, from the School of ELS, shared this experience below: “I used the Turnitin App on
my iPad 2 this summer for referrals in two modules. The app was
relatively straight forward to use once I had gone through the
tutorial. There is a bit of set up required at the start of the process
but once past this everything becomes very easy. The app allowed work
to be submitted through Turnitin for originality, and then for the work to be
graded which could be done by text or voice comments if you preferred.
Rubrics can be attached as well if this is set up beforehand. Having the
flexibility to mark the work from different work bases was a real boon so I
will be looking to use it again.” You can see the app in action here. Upon considering early staff trials and current online guidance there appear to be some clear boons and notable issues, see below: Why use it… · Works offline · Portable · Intuitive once setup · Supports the full range of Turnitin features e.g. rubrics, drag and drop comments, free text feedback boxes, annotation, audio feedback, text highlighting and similarity reporting Watch out for… · Initial setup (see guide here) · Security – setup a passcode on the app and also on your iPad as well, if you haven’t already. · Switching between your desktop PC and the app mid-marking (don't do it! The app currently overwrites desktop entries even if the app entry is blank) ·
Anonymous assignments with multiple markers –
you need separate submission points for each marker similar to how we used to
setup assignment handler (contact us if unsure) Please contact Chris Gillies C.G.Gillies@ljmu.ac.uk if you would
like further information. |
