The Evolution of Directed Study Week

Andrew Barker, Associate Director, Library Services

Directed Study Week will begin to evolve from 2018/2019 with a greater focus on developing our students’ skills. We shall create sessions aimed at every level and we will be introducing virtual sessions to ensure that when our students cannot attend in person, they have other options. We also want to engage more with academic staff and present sessions that relate more closely to individual modules, with this in mind, if you do have sessions that you plan to run in Directed Study Week, please let me know so that we can get it in the brochure. If you want to do this, or if you want to discuss any aspect of Directed Study Week, contact me, Andrew Barker, Associate Director, Library Services: a.c.barker@ljmu.ac.uk

Outcomes of consultations from Abstract #2.4

>      BS/324 (pictured) This did not receive significant positive or negative feedback. Issues noted in teaching observation about collaborative learning sessions occurring in fixed-seat rooms have been passed on to timetabling.

>      The Alternative Assessment (AA) form This received mixed feedback. Some staff felt that it helped with record keeping whereas as others felt that it was a less elegant means of replicating existing reporting. Given existing arrangements work well, the AA form can be reserved for instances where the School Office would otherwise be unware that alternative assessment(s) have been set.

Tips and polite reminders

>

If you attempt to print off a confidential document from a Follow Me printer and nothing happens, be mindful that the document may stay in the printer’s memory and print out later on. To cancel a stored print job, first press the button labelled  on the panel to view stored jobs.

[Note: this issue reported as resolved by ITS 10/7/18] There are a now range of external websites that will not open from the default browser within off-campus applications. This includes websites of publishers that must be accessed via an LJMU (on/off-campus) client to secure free access. The workaround is to use the App Player to open Google Chrome and use this browser within off-campus applications.

>

A reminder to add a Canvas announcement when feedback is available for students to access.
