Curriculum Enhancement Project and Internships

Funding has been made available by the Offices of the Vice Chancellor and Pro Vice Chancellor (Education) to support curriculum enhancement (CE) activity.

>  CE Projects support the strategic goals of LJMU and can be used to evaluate and trial ideas, establish good practice or promote standards, or assist individuals and teams implement new applications, strategies and processes. Up to £20,000 is available and proposals are invited under three enhancement project funding streams by 31st October.

> CE Internships must take place during Semester 2.  Academic staff would supervise LJMU student interns undertaking up to 300 hours of work. Proposals are invited by 10th November 2017

Teaching observation and tutorial attendance monitoring

Both activities remain unchanged this year. For teaching observations, observer-observee pairs have been or are being finalised. As part of tutorial attendance monitoring, completed registers should be passed on to your Subject Leader at the end of October.

 

 

The language of the NSS has changed

Please be mindful that NSS questions have changed and students will be asked questions around the following concepts in 2018. You may want to use these terms in preference to equivalent phrases when teaching. Key terms direct from NSS are underlined.

SCALE-UP  is an active learning approach pioneered at North Carolina State University.

Colin Jones, University of Queensland. The Courage to Teach: On Becoming a More Effective Educator

10:00am – 12:00pm Tuesday 7th November 2017, Room 137, Redmonds Building.

Dr Jones’ area of research and teaching is in enterprise education and he is the leading published academic in this area with over 100 scholarly works.

e-Learning forum (now postponed)

1:00-4:00pm Thursday 9th November e-Learning forum, G14 Exchange Building

This event provides a space where LJMU staff can meet to share ideas and experiences of teaching and supporting technology. There will be a focus on Canvas.

Outcomes and presentation slides from the recent Science Practice Exchange Event on 14/9/17 are stored here. Chris Chambers from Digital Assess co-presented Session 1 from 1-2pm and will return to LJMU on Monday 23rd October at 11 am. Responses to the 2017 Faculty of Science Learning and Teaching Survey are here. Outcomes from Questions 1&2 were shared at the June LJMU L&T conference, Q3&4 were shared with Estates, Q5 was developed into a new attendance-enhancement resource and Q7-10 were shared with Prof Laura Bishop, Associate Dean (Global Engagement).

A warning from the Faculty of EHC regarding Canvas e-submission, including Turnitin: You need to ‘Mute’ your assignments in the ‘Grades’ area before you start marking. If you don’t do this, students will receive their grades immediately! How to mute

A reminder that photos for class provides a convenient source of images for use in teaching that have embedded attribution. Example:
