Fieldwork

Having trouble with placement providers completing appendix 2b? Will you be accompanying the student on their placement?

The ‘fieldwork route’ is available as an alternative ‘placement’ option when placement providers are not willing to sign appendix 2b. Fieldwork paperwork should be completed in addition to appendix 1, 3 and learning agreement. Academic staff must be present with students whilst on Fieldwork; further details can be obtained from the Health and Safety Unit. For further information regarding your options, please contact the Health and Safety Unit, tel: 0151 231 5540

Professional Behaviour

The Faculty are currently looking to develop a Faculty policy and accessible resources to encourage professional behaviour amongst students. Do you already have interventions in place? If so, please contact Jamie Fearn, email J.Fearn@ljmu.ac.uk tel: 0151 231 2349

Positive Feedback

A bit of good news…

In PBS, it was noted that a current student has received a job offer as a result of their placement, And…

As a result of outstanding student interviews, the University of Navarra have agreed to take 3 PBS students on placement this year (one more than usual).

Changes to Placement Learning Code of Practice

Any recommendations/ changes regarding the Code of Practice paperwork should be channelled through Phil Denton and CANNOT be changed locally within schools

For more information, please contact Phil Denton, tel: 0151 231 2035, email: P.Denton@ljmu.ac.uk

Shared Faculty Practice

Two separate incidents have been raised within the School of SPS in relation to non-compliance and inappropriate student behaviour:

Student 1: The student who currently remains on the module has not responded to any of the requirements in order to complete the assessment and cannot fail the module until they have failed the assessment.

Student 2: The provider has refused the student to return and complete their placement due to inappropriate behaviour.

In PBS, they are able to adhere to ‘Fitness to Practice’ conditions with the support of regulations and if a student is pulled from placement, they will not receive the sandwich certificate/ ‘applied’ degree. However, the main concerns for SPS are the lack of formal procedures for dealing with the students’ non engagement before the assessment and the risk of a student appeal as a result.

The Faculty are currently in the process of clarifying procedures regarding non-engaging students.
