Principles of LTA development within the Faculty

 

The Faculty undertakes LTA activity in accord with the LJMU Teaching and Learning Strategy (TLS) 2023-2030.  The Faculty’s engagement with the Strategy is informed by a set of principles aligned around three interconnected themes.

 

 

 

1 Nurturing student learning

 

Within the context of the TLS, the Faculty of Science…

 

a)            Supports curricula that reflect PSRB requirements and foster collaboration and learning through research, enhancing students’ employability.

 

b)            Offers contact hours that are consistent with the sector, providing clear information to students about staff availabilities and assisting in the development of time-management skills.

 

c)            Recognises the importance of the affective domain of learning, supporting relationship building through personal tutoring and name-learning initiatives.

 

 

 

 

2 Supporting staff development

 

Within the context of the TLS, the Faculty of Science…

 

a)            Appreciates the developmental aspects of peer review for both reviewer and reviewee when framed within a values-based approach.

b)            Provides opportunities for staff to have informal conversations about their teaching practice and facilitates professional conversations about teaching and the learning environment.

c)            Celebrates staff achievement and encourages all staff to participate in institutional award schemes.

d)            Records Faculty-level LTA activities with identified dissemination strategies and provides clear guidance around Faculty policies and procedures.

 

 

 

3  Sustaining a fertile environment

 

Within the context of the TLS, the Faculty of Science…

 

a)            Supports pedagogic inquiry, research-informed teaching, the effective use of ICT, and the meaningful evaluation of TLA practices in collaboration with students.

 

b)            Recognises the potential of all Faculty stakeholders (student, staff, and partners) in enhancing learning, embracing equality, diversity and inclusivity.

 

c)            Appreciates the dynamic nature of higher education and provides regular updates to staff and students regarding LTA activity within the Faculty, institution and wider HE community.
