Attendance monitoring: What students see (Thanks to Graham
Sherwood) Students can now view attendance data that has been collected
via the Nexus monitoring tablets.
Blackboard displays a weekly register covering the last eight weeks,
with further detail for each module being accessible by clicking on the
module code. As long as students
attend one tablet-registered session in a particular module during a calendar
week then they are marked as present in that module for that week. If not, then they are marked as by default
as ‘unauthorised absence’. We are
requesting clarification over procedures around recording authorised
absences. |

Extent of full time work
by LJMU students (Thanks to World of Work Careers Centre) At
the July graduation ceremonies each year, all students are invited to
complete the LJMU Employment and Career
Prospects Survey. I can provide a copy
of the full findings on request but 3408 graduates completed the survey this
year with around 87% being undergraduates.
In 2015, the amount of students reporting that they worked full time
at some stage while studying, i.e. since the introduction of the new fees
regime, is eye opening (eye watering?). |

Open-access printers on site The issue of the number of printers
within open-access rooms on site has been raised with the University and we
are hoping that at least one more device will be installed in the new Student
Social Zone. Open-access refers to
rooms that cannot be booked for teaching.
The following email has been sent to all Science students: A timely reminder of printing facilities at Byrom St: Within classrooms that may be booked for teaching (see www.tinyurl.com/byrompc) • James Parson Building,
Rm 318 • James Parson Building,
Rm 319 • James Parson Building,
Rm 320 • James Parson Building,
Rm 321b • Cherie Booth Building,
Rm 106 Within areas that are always accessible during normal building hours: • New Student Social Zone
(rear of Starbucks), First Floor • James Parson Building,
Outside Rm 720 |

M:\LJMUWEB folders
(Thanks to IT Services) IT Services
have confirmed that files stored on M:\LJMUWEB will continue to remain offline and
that the current re-direct to the University Staff List web pages will remain
in place. One
consequence of this is that the Outlook
program that some staff use to advertise their
availabilities will no longer produce online-accessible pages. A workaround is currently being
investigated. |

University of Glasgow
L&T Conference (Thanks to Teaching and Learning Academy) This year’s University
of Glasgow Learning and Teaching Conference is entitled, ‘Active student
participation in learning, teaching and assessment.’ This
will be interest to staff who have engaged with
students in curriculum design. The
presentation format is similar to the LJMU conference (30 min presentation
and including 10 min Q&A), although there is also the opportunity to
develop an interactive workshop. The call for abstract submissions closes in 6 November and
the conference takes place on Tuesday 12 April, 2016 (Tue Week 29). There is a modest charge for external delegates/presenters
and the Faculty could cover this and travel expenses. Expressions of interest to p.denton@ljmu.ac.uk by Fri 23rd
October please. |
