Staff Development Sessions

>

Canvas VLE: All staff are expected to attend training in the virtual learning environment (VLE) that will replace Blackboard next academic year.  Click here for dates and booking information

>

Teaching in Practice Series (TiPS): This series includes a range of workshops, focusing on strategies to enhance student engagement and the use of technology within teaching and assessment approaches.

SimOn – A new Simple Online Tool for Course Reps

SimOn_Button-02-02

LiverpoolSU are introducing the online SimOn app to collect feedback from Course Reps arising from conversations with students.  The app can be used to collect feedback on the whole range of student experiences and collected data will be shared, and responded to by students, through this online platform.  Issues that are perceived to be relevant by a number of students, as identified by ‘likes’ within SimOn, may then be raised at Boards of Studies.  Please could you encourage your course reps to use SimOn when gathering feedback from your programmes.

Referral date consultation

Outcomes of the consultation on referral dates/tasks and Summer School provision were considered at Education Committee in November.  Responses from across the Institution showed no overall consensus and no changes were directly instigated by the outcomes.  Thus, referral dates for August 2017 remain unchanged and as stated in the academic calendar.  A summary of the survey outcomes, prepared by the Academic Registrar, is here.

Learning technology items

>

Turning Point (ask-the-audience clickers): Staff should be aware that, due to a significant increase in licensing costs, the University does not intend to upgrade from Version 5 of Turning Point.  This works well with Windows 10, the current version installed on classroom PC clients, but its compatibility with future versions of Windows cannot be guaranteed.  The University is currently exploring new classroom response systems for Institutional adoption.  Guidance on the Faculty LTA website has been updated accordingly.

>

Faculty of Education, Health and Community Learning Technology website: This is a comprehensive repository of short articles relating to practical applications of learning technologies available to LJMU staff.

>

NetLog, MatLAB and WebPA: These three applications are available to Faculty Staff and further information can be found on the Faculty LTA Development Day page.

> NetLogo – Enables the analysis of agent-based models in teaching, even if you are a beginner.

> MatLAB – Enables the analysis and manipulation of matrix-type data.

> WebPA – Enables the assignment of individualised marks for group-work assessments.

>

Lecture theatre PCs consultation: IT services are considering developing a new PC client for lecture theatres.  If this were available, what features would you like to be included?  Please SCSADE@ljmu.ac.uk with any suggestions by the end of this month.

One minute module evaluation (OMME): Semester 2 modules

A reminder that OMME opens for Semester 2 modules on 15th February and closes on 26th February.  A guide for module leaders is here.
